State Sen. Julian Bradley (R-WI-28) said the recent database released by Do No Harm, which reports how many minors have undergone sex change surgeries and hormone treatments in each state in recent years, is "shocking and heartbreaking" to see.
"It is shocking and heartbreaking to find out that over 200 kids in Wisconsin have been subjected to sex change surgeries and chemical treatments in the last four years," Bradley told Waukesha Times. "Without the critical work of Chloe Cole and her organization, Do No Harm, legislators like myself and the general public would have no idea that these controversial procedures were happening all over the country and in our own backyard."
"I voted for and supported Assembly Bill 465, authored by Rep. Scott Allen of Waukesha, which would have outlawed these irreversible surgeries and treatments on children under the age of 18," said Bradley. "Unfortunately, Gov. Tony Evers and the entire Democrat Party support these grisly and short-sighted changes, even if it is being done to a child."
Bradley's statement comes in response to a national database released of hospitals and medical facilities “administering irreversible sex change interventions on children in the United States” by the organization Do No Harm.
Taxpayers in Wisconsin spent more than $110,000 for “irreversible sex change interventions” on children in Wisconsin via managed Medicaid between the years 2019 and 2023, The Sconi reported. The database shows that hospitals in Wisconsin saw 198 minors who were “sex change patients,” including 104 total surgery patients. These hospitals administered “hormone and puberty blockers” to 100 total children and wrote 425 prescriptions. In all, it totaled $1,148,958 in total submitted charges.
"Anyone who cares about children, and what we as a society must do to protect our children from harm, needs to remember this when you head to the ballot box in a few days," Bradley said. "I will always fight to protect our children and I will be trying, once again, next year to put an end to these controversial treatments."
Twenty-nine of these interventions were paid for by the managed Medicaid program for a total of $111,037.93 in taxpayer funding.
Do No Harm said the database “catalogs pediatric sex change-related services, including surgeries, cross-sex hormones, and puberty blockers, at U.S.-based medical facilities between 2019 and 2023.”
The data represents sources including “claims clearinghouses, data aggregators, payors, health systems, CMS, and multiple open data sources,” according to Do No Harm, and includes data from commercial insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, and VA claims.”
The Bellin Hospital of Green Bay submitted the most charges among Wisconsin hospitals, according to the database. The hospital saw 22 “sex change” patients, who were children, from 2019 to 2023, including 10 surgery patients and 14 total “hormone and puberty blocker” patients. There were 61 total prescriptions written. In all, it amounted to $373,102 in total submitted charges.
Children's Hospital of Wisconsin was the only children's hospital from the state included in the database. The facility saw 18 underage “sex change” patients, including 6 surgery patients and 12 total “hormone and puberty blocker” patients. There were 50 total prescriptions written. A total of $5,743 submitted charges were made.
Originally opened in 1894, the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin is located in Milwaukee, WI, with a secondary campus located in Neenah. The hospital offers specialized care in pediatric oncology, pediatric cardiology, pediatric neurology, and neo-natal care, among other services. The hospital is affiliated with the Medical College of Wisconsin.
The issue of taxpayer funding of these procedures has gained national attention as Democrat presidential candidate Kamala Harris, who is in a dead heat with former President Donald Trump, has openly advocated for "transgender" surgeries for illegal immigrants and prisoners.
In 2017, then-President Trump rescinded an Obama-era "guidance" to public schools to allow "transgender" students to use the bathrooms of their choice. Obama had threatened "to withhold funding for schools that did not comply" with his guidance — a move that was undone by Trump.
A recent ad by the Senate Leadership Fund said that U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisc.) "supported providing puberty blockers and sex change surgeries to minor children," according to The Guardian. On October 4, 2023 Baldwin made a post in support of Governor Tony Evers' (D) veto of legislation that forbid puberty blockers and sex change surgeries for minors.
Chloe Cole, a senior fellow at Do No Harm, said the database “proves the lies from the medical establishment and radical politicians who argue that cases like mine are rare.”
A 20-year-old woman who said that she had “gender dysphoria” was given “puberty blockers,” testosterone and had a double mastectomy at age 12, Cole has since “de-transitioned” and supports bans on the chemical castration of minors.
“The stats in this database represent thousands of kids who are being treated like Guinea pigs for unproven, and sometimes dangerous, medical experiments,” said Cole. “I hope politicians and parents alike use this database to see where these treatments are happening and protect their children from being rushed into irreversible, life-altering treatments.”
Nationally, 13,994 children received sex change-related treatments between 2019 and 2023, according to Do No Harm’s database. This includes 5,747 sex change surgeries performed on children, and 62,682 hormone and puberty blockers prescriptions written for 8,579 pediatric patients.
“At least $119,791,202 made from sex change treatments performed on minors,” reported the organization.
