Washington, DC - Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) expressed his disappointment following the vote on a Motion to Vacate, which resulted in the removal of Speaker McCarthy. Fitzgerald, who voted with the majority of the Republican conference to support McCarthy, emphasized the need to focus on reducing federal spending and countering the policies of the Biden Administration.

"In the last 9 months, the Republican House has passed critically needed legislation to secure the border, give parents more say in their child's education, make America energy independent, and importantly, reduce our federal debt," Fitzgerald stated. "I am disappointed by the results of yesterday's vote to remove the Speaker. I voted with the overwhelming majority of the Republican conference to back Speaker McCarthy and to get back to work on the remaining appropriations bills that would both reduce federal spending and stop the toxic policies of the Biden Administration."

The Congressman expressed his frustration with the Democrat caucus, stating that they joined forces with a small number of Republican members to shut down the House and remove McCarthy from his position. However, Fitzgerald made it clear that he would not dwell on the motion to vacate, but instead would focus on the task of electing another Republican Speaker to continue their oversight responsibilities and lead the conference towards more victories for the American people.

With the Speaker's removal, the Republican conference faces the challenge of finding a new leader who can effectively guide their legislative efforts and advocate for their priorities. Fitzgerald's dedication to electing another Republican Speaker highlights the importance of maintaining party unity and advancing their agenda.

As the Republican House members regroup and strategize, they will undoubtedly face significant obstacles in their pursuit of common goals. Nonetheless, Fitzgerald's determination to prioritize the needs of the American people and address critical issues such as federal spending and policy decisions remains unwavering.
