Authors engage middle schoolers at Elmbrook Schools

Pilgrim Park and Wisconsin Hills Middle Schools hosted notable authors Ruta Sepetys, Steve Sheinkin, Marissa Meyer, and Joanne Levy in October. The events were organized with the help of Boswell Book Company.

On October 18, Pilgrim Park Middle School welcomed Sepetys and Sheinkin to discuss their new book, "The Bletchley Riddle," released on October 8. The event gathered 900 students in the gymnasium. Sepetys, a #1 New York Times bestselling author known for historical fiction, spoke about her approach to integrating lesser-known historical events into her work. Sheinkin shared his methods for making complex history accessible to young readers. Kim Liepert, Pilgrim Park’s Library Lead, noted that such events inspire students by highlighting the possibilities in reading and writing.

Later in the month on October 30, Meyer and Levy visited Wisconsin Hills Middle School to meet with 210 sixth graders. They celebrated their new novel "Let It Glow," which was released on October 29. Meyer discussed her inspiration from classic fairy tales for her series "The Lunar Chronicles." Levy talked about her journey as an author and creating relatable characters. Colleen Fenno Ladwig, Wisconsin Hills’ Librarian, expressed gratitude for the authors' visit and its impact on encouraging creativity among students.

Elmbrook Schools maintains a tradition of hosting esteemed authors to promote reading and creativity among students. With support from Boswell Book Company, these visits enrich literacy programs within the district.
