Scott Fitzgerald, a U.S. Congressman representing Wisconsin's 5th district, shared insights and concerns through a series of tweets. Fitzgerald, who succeeded Jim Sensenbrenner in 2021 and previously served in the Wisconsin State Senate from 1995 to 2021, discussed topics ranging from letters sent with Judiciary colleagues to issues related to performance rights organizations and the actions of the Global Engagement Center.
On February 10, 2025, Fitzgerald referenced a letter he had sent with his Judiciary colleagues Jim Jordan and Darrell Issa. He provided a link to this letter for public viewing: "Copy of the letter I sent last year with my Judiciary colleagues @Jim_Jordan and @repdarrellissa https://t.co/1nKooyu5RU".
The same day, Fitzgerald expressed concerns about new Performance Rights Organizations (PROs) that have been allegedly engaging in deceptive or fraudulent practices. He appreciated the United States Copyright Office (USCO) for taking action based on the Judiciary Committee’s request: "The proliferation of new Performance Rights Orgs (PROs) that engage in deceptive, or outright fraudulent, solicitations from bars, restaurants, and other venues must be addressed. I’m glad the USCO took seriously the Judiciary Committee’s request and has begun to study this… https://t.co/gRl4rZzmW5 https://t.co/mpKoHyNEHG".
On February 12, 2025, Fitzgerald commented on revelations known as "The Twitter Files," which exposed how the State Department's Global Engagement Center (GEC) purportedly ended up censoring American speech despite its original mission to counter foreign disinformation campaigns. The GEC was reportedly disbanded at the end of last year after congressional intervention: "The Twitter Files showed how the State Department’s Global Engagement Center (GEC)—initially created to counter foreign disinformation campaigns—ended up censoring American speech directly and by proxy.
The GEC was supposedly disbanded at the end of last year after Congress… https://t.co/ZpKDu9HnTKhttps://t.co/tCJYbKVJXu".
