Congressman Scott Fitzgerald has expressed his views following the approval of the H.R. 5009, known as the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025. The act, passed by Congress, aims to enhance conditions for U.S. military personnel.

"The FY25 Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act represents another step forward in Congress’s commitment to our troops who dedicate their lives to defending our nation," said Congressman Fitzgerald. The legislation includes a significant pay increase for servicemembers, authorizing a 14.5% raise for junior enlisted troops and a 4.5% raise for others.

The act addresses various issues faced by military families, including housing maintenance and childcare access, alongside ensuring comprehensive medical and mental health care services for servicemembers. "These enhancements underscore our nation's gratitude and commitment to improving military recruitment, retention, and readiness while ensuring our troops and their families thrive," he added.

However, Congressman Fitzgerald voiced disappointment over the lack of bipartisan support regarding certain investment restrictions related to China. "I am disappointed that House Democrats chose to walk away from a bipartisan deal to include provisions restricting certain outbound investments to China," he stated, emphasizing the importance of such measures in addressing challenges posed by the Chinese Communist Party.
