Brookfield East High School's Athletics Manager, Cheryl Waffenschmidt, has been honored with the Gregory A. Smith Distinguished Service Award for District 7 by the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association. Waffenschmidt has been a pivotal figure in Brookfield East and Elmbrook's athletic programs for nearly two decades.

Ben Westphal, Associate Principal for Athletics and Activities at Brookfield East, praised Waffenschmidt's contributions: “Cheryl Waffenschmidt has had a tremendous impact on Brookfield East over her many years of service. As the face of the Brookfield East Athletics & Activities office, she has served many students, teachers, coaches, advisors, administrators, parents and the community."

Westphal highlighted her commitment to supporting student-athletes beyond traditional responsibilities: "Cheryl’s above-and-beyond efforts even extend to transportation, where she secured her license to drive a bus for teams in need. Simply put, Cheryl has dedicated her time and energies to create a culture of student-athlete excellence.”

Waffenschmidt's work has influenced thousands of students and staff members over the years. Her dedication is recognized through this award.
