With winter on the horizon, residents are being reminded to inspect their mailboxes in preparation for snow plowing season. The Department of Public Works has highlighted the importance of this annual maintenance task, as mailboxes can be damaged by snow coming off plows or by direct contact with plow vehicles.

Residents are advised to check their mailbox and support post to ensure they are sturdy enough to withstand the weight of snow. Over time, ground settling can cause mailboxes to sink or tip forward, weakening them against heavy snowfall. It is also recommended that residents clear the area around their mailbox after each snowfall.

"The Department of Public Works staff appreciates your patience and understanding during our cold, snowy Wisconsin winters," stated a representative from the department.
