College students who wish to vote must decide whether to maintain residency at their parent’s home or establish new residency in their college community. If not already registered, students should register in the chosen municipality. Registration can be completed online at myvote.wi.gov until Wednesday, October 16th, or in the local municipal Clerk’s office until Friday, November 1st. Absentee ballots can also be requested via the same website. It is important to read instructions carefully before submitting an absentee ballot.

For questions about registering or requesting an absentee ballot, students are advised to contact their municipal Clerk directly. "Advice from others is not always accurate and can lead to critical mistakes," a statement reads.

Students are reminded to personally fill out forms for registration and absentee ballots unless assistance is required as defined by the Wisconsin Election Commission. A Wisconsin Driver’s License or Photo ID should be available when registering or requesting an absentee ballot.

Parents are urged to discuss voting rules with their college students. Voting both an absentee ballot at home and then going to the polls at school for the same election date constitutes a felony, even if the ballot contents differ. "Don’t assume your college student knows," warns officials. Casting more than one ballot per election is a felony.

There has been an increase in voter registration drives this election season. Documents from these drives often appear official as they include the name and address of the City Clerk but may not be affiliated with the City of Pewaukee. Voters are advised to scrutinize fine print since scammers may exploit these opportunities. Personal information such as birth dates and driver’s license numbers should never be given to unknown individuals.

Information on what will appear on ballots can be found at https://myvote.wi.gov/en-us/Whats-On-My-Ballot.
