NEW DATE! Aly Raisman event rescheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 7 at WCTC

Schedule

Waukesha County Technical College issued the following announcement.

PLEASE NOTE: A new date has been announced for the Waukesha County Technical College Speaker series event, featuring Aly Raisman. The world-class gymnast will be on campus on Tuesday, Dec. 7.

At the live, in-person event, gymnast and gold medalist Raisman will participate in a moderated, question-and-answer session in the Anthony J. Natalizio (AJN) Center in Building S, on the College’s main campus at 800 Main Street, Pewaukee. Doors will open at 11 a.m. with Raisman to speak at noon.

Raisman served as the team captain of the gold medal-winning U.S. Women’s Gymnastics teams in 2012 and 2016. At the 2012 Games, she was the first American gymnast to win gold in the floor exercise, and at the 2016 Games, she helped guide the team to gold and earned a silver medal in the All-Around competition.

Raisman uses her platform to promote body positivity, encouraging people to be comfortable in their own skin. She continues to advocate for systematic changes within gymnastics and is focused on efforts to help to eradicate sexual abuse in youth sports.

WCTC is committed to bringing thoughtful speakers to the campus, as part of the growing WCTC Speaker Series, to share their inspiring personal stories and triumphs.

“September is National Campus Safety Awareness Month – a time to focus on bystander intervention and victim empowerment,” said Sherry Simmons, WCTC chief diversity and compliance officer, and member of the College’s speaker series planning committee. “In doing so, WCTC is excited to host Aly Raisman on our campus. During her courageous fight, Aly and other sexual abuse survivors were awarded the Arthur Ashe Courage Award in 2018.”

Cost for the event, which includes a light lunch, is $45 for community members, and registration is required. Raisman’s best-selling memoir, "Fierce," in which she shares the highs and lows of her journey, including her survival of sexual abuse, will be available for purchase (supplies are limited).
