The construction industry is facing a significant challenge as it prepares for an anticipated increase in demand for services. With many skilled workers nearing retirement, the need for new workers is growing. In Wisconsin, the number of apprentices has been steadily increasing since 2012. Data from the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) showed that in 2024, there were 17,452 apprentices, marking an 81% increase compared to 2012.
A new bill has been drafted following the DWD’s announcement that Wisconsin saw 11,344 youth apprentices enrolled in the 2024-25 school year. This represents a 14% rise from the previous year. Of these apprentices, 1,409 were involved in agriculture and construction trades.
