The Joint Committee on Finance has given its approval to a budget motion that aims to increase funding for the prosecutor’s office in Waukesha County. The motion, authored by state Representatives Adam Neylon, Scott Allen, Barbara Dittrich, Cindi Duchow, Dan Knodl, Dave Maxey, Jim Piwowarczyk, and Chuck Wichgers, proposes the addition of 42 prosecutor positions across 23 counties.

Despite this development, the Legislature and governor still need to approve the final version of the budget before it can be enacted.

According to the release, “These added positions will help alleviate the heavy caseload currently facing the District Attorney’s office. The funding also includes pay progression for current staff to help retain experienced and capable prosecutors.”
