The Republican Party of Waukesha County called on March 25 for the immediate resignation of School Board member Diane Voit, following a formal ethics complaint and increased media coverage about her conduct in office.
The issue has gained attention due to concerns about the use of taxpayer-funded resources, potential conflicts between official duties and political activity, and questions about maintaining impartial governance. The complaint alleges that Voit used an official district email account for advocacy and campaign-related activities while also participating in efforts opposing district decisions as a sitting board member.
Media outlets including the Waukesha Freeman, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and The Heartland Post have reported on these concerns. “Public office is a public trust,” said Chairman Terry Dittrich. “School board members have a duty to uphold clear ethical boundaries and maintain the integrity of their role. When those lines appear blurred, confidence in governance is compromised.”
A previous situation involving Maria Carrillo—a private citizen and candidate—also drew scrutiny over perceived conflicts of interest earlier this year. According to the press release, Wisconsin law applies only to sitting officeholders rather than candidates; however, Carrillo stepped back from campaigning after facing intense public pressure.
Dan Freschi, a local resident, said: “This is not about politics. It’s about standards. When a private citizen is driven from a race over perception, but documented actions by a sitting official are ignored, it raises serious questions about selective accountability.”
Waukesha County GOP functions as a local political organization affiliated with the Republican Party according to its official website. The group operates in Waukesha County according to its official website and is guided by an executive team supported by volunteers, staff and elected officials according to its official website. Community activities include movie nights, moms’ forums and opportunities for caucuses or volunteering at gun shows according to its official website.
The party said it believes Voit’s conduct has already undermined public trust and urged her resignation so that the School Board can “move forward with restored credibility and focus on students and families.” Legal authorities will determine any further action.
