The City of Pewaukee Water & Sewer Utility has announced that it will conduct hydrant flushing on weekdays from September 22 through October 31, between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. This maintenance activity is carried out twice a year, in the spring and fall, to check that hydrants are functioning correctly, confirm water pressure and flow, and remove sediment from water mains to help maintain water clarity and quality.
Residents may observe temporary discoloration of their water during this period. According to the city’s notice, "During flushing, you may notice temporary water discoloration. This is normal, and your water will remain safe to drink. If discoloration occurs, run your cold water tap for several minutes until it clears." The utility also advises residents not to do laundry during scheduled flushing times to prevent possible staining. For those who cannot postpone laundry or are unsure if flushing is happening in their area, the city recommends contacting the Utility office at (262) 691-0804.
Hydrant flushing is a routine procedure aimed at maintaining the reliability of the municipal water system.
