Today, Congressman Scott Fitzgerald announced the U.S. Senate's unanimous consent to pass his bill, H.R. 7199, which aims to rename a post office in Muskego, Wisconsin. The facility located at S74w16860 Janesville Road will be designated as the "Colonel Hans Christian Heg Post Office."
Colonel Hans Christian Heg was known for his strong abolitionist stance and is recognized as the highest-ranking Union casualty from Wisconsin during the Civil War.
Congressman Fitzgerald expressed his satisfaction with the Senate's decision: “I am incredibly happy to see the Senate pass my bill to rename the U.S. Post Office in Muskego in honor of Colonel Hans Christian Heg,” he stated. He further highlighted Colonel Heg's significant legacy, saying, “By renaming this post office after Colonel Heg, we are cementing this war hero and abolitionist’s legacy in Wisconsin. Colonel Heg has a history worth honoring and remembering, and this bill does exactly that.”
The next step for the bill is approval by the White House.
