Elmbrook Schools hosted a significant event on November 21, marking a milestone in education and workforce development. The Teacher Apprentice Signing Event celebrated Wisconsin's first cohort of teacher apprentices, including Elmbrook's Matthew Jacobson, the state's pioneering teacher apprentice. The event featured a roundtable discussion with school, state, and federal officials such as Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, Amy Pechacek from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD), David Polk from DWD, Deputy Administrator Megan Baird from the US Department of Labor, and Nikki Churchwell from the US Department of Education.
The signing was held at Brookfield Elementary School and highlighted collaborative efforts between Elmbrook Schools, the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD), the Department of Public Instruction (DPI), and various districts across the state. This initiative aims to address the need for qualified educators while offering aspiring teachers hands-on experience through an earn-while-you-learn model.
Pam Casey, Elmbrook’s Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources stated: "We are thrilled to be at the forefront of this initiative that not only supports our teacher talent pipeline but also sets a precedent for educational development across the state." She emphasized Matthew Jacobson's role as a testament to their commitment to nurturing talent.
The Teacher Apprenticeship Program is a partnership involving the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, school districts, Wisconsin Technical College System, and Lakeland University. It offers participants comprehensive training through classroom instruction and on-the-job learning leading to teaching careers.
Matthew Jacobson expressed his enthusiasm: "Being able to contribute to the future of education while simultaneously advancing my own career is a dream come true," he said. "This apprenticeship is a unique chance to make a meaningful impact in the lives of students and in the community."
The event included speeches from Governor Tony Evers, teacher apprentices, state officials, and representatives from participating colleges and districts. A signing ceremony followed symbolizing these educators' commitment to their teaching careers.
Elmbrook Schools' involvement in this program underscores its dedication to innovation in education and leadership in workforce development initiatives. With this program, Elmbrook continues building a robust talent pipeline that began with its LAUNCH Future Teachers program.
