The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) marked the 50th anniversary of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program on November 13, 2024. These grants provide funding to communities like Waukesha County, enabling partnerships with private and non-profit sectors to address various community needs.
"Investing in nonprofit organizations is a commitment to strengthening the fabric of our community. These organizations provide critical services and resources for residents when they need them most in life," stated Parks & Land Use Director Dale Shaver.
Annually, around 30 local non-profits across Waukesha County utilize these funds to meet critical needs such as housing rehabilitation, neighborhood revitalization, public facilities, infrastructure improvements, job creation, and public services.
Over the past five decades, HUD has collaborated with community partners through CDBG to effect meaningful change, particularly for low- and moderate-income communities. Each year more than 1,200 state, local, and territorial jurisdictions receive CDBG funds aimed at revitalizing their areas.
“Empowering nonprofit organizations amplifies their impact. By directing resources through these channels, we fuel missions that drive transformative change ensuring essential support reaches every corner of our communities,” commented Community Development Manager Kristin Silva.
Waukesha County has produced a short video highlighting four partner non-profit organizations: The Women’s Center, Lake Area Free Clinic, Habitat for Humanity, and The Hope Center. These groups collaborate with Waukesha County’s Community Development Division using CDBG funds to make a positive impact in the community.
