The City of Brookfield has announced plans to conduct a mosquito abatement program on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. This decision follows reports of increased mosquito larvae counts in specific parts of the city. The treatment will cover approximately 620 acres of major wetland and floodland areas, primarily within the Fox River corridor and Wirth Park wetlands.
Clark Environmental Mosquito Management, Inc., the city's consultant, will administer the treatment using a biolarvicide product called Natular G. This substance is a naturally occurring soil bacterium in granular form and will be applied by helicopter with GPS technology to ensure precise targeting of affected areas.
Residents are advised that there are no restrictions on public use of treated areas; however, caution is recommended during active treatment operations. The operation will begin at daybreak and continue through the morning hours.
It is important to note that not all areas in Brookfield will receive treatment. Only those meeting specific larval density and development stage criteria set by the Department of Natural Resources are included. Maps detailing these locations can be accessed at City Hall or on the city's website.
For further updates on future treatments or additional information, residents are encouraged to visit the city's website.
