On October 26, the Brookfield East Girls Tennis Team secured their first State Team Championship at The Nielsen Tennis Center in Madison. This victory marked a significant achievement during their ninth State Tournament appearance. The team, seeded second, defeated the top-rated Arrowhead team, who were the two-time defending Division 1 champions.

Junior Caroline Raster played a crucial role by winning her match at the #1 singles flight. She had previously placed fifth at the WIAA State Individual Tennis Championships. Sophomore Lily Sun and Senior Yukiko Mitchell also won their singles matches at the #2 and #3 flights respectively. The doubles team of Sophomore Shriya Pusunuru and Freshman Cece Bonfilio sealed the team's victory with a 6-4 win.

The journey to this championship included victories over Westosha Central with a score of 6-1 in the quarterfinals and Middleton with a score of 5-2 in the semifinals. These wins paved the way for their final matchup against Arrowhead, which they won 4-3.

“This monumental win is a testament to the hard work that the team has put in, but also embodies the fighting spirit and resilience that this Brookfield East Girls Tennis team represents,” stated Coach Linda Lied. “I am so proud of these athletes and their historic win.” Additional contributions came from Samantha Behling, Elle Hillmann, Caroline Raster, Adi Sangowdar, and Zoja Selak.

The community extends its congratulations to both the Brookfield East Girls Tennis team and Coach Linda Lied for this remarkable achievement.
