Best-selling author Loren Long visited Brookfield Elementary on October 2, engaging with over 350 students and staff. The visit marked the release of his new children's book, "The Yellow Bus," which delves into themes of joy, purpose, and companionship through the story of a school bus. Long is known for his work as both an author and illustrator, having sold millions of copies worldwide. His notable works include the Otis series and illustrations for President Barack Obama's "Of Thee I Sing."
Several GO Riteway drivers and staff attended Long's presentation. He expressed gratitude for their community service in student transportation. During the event, Long discussed his inspirations for "The Yellow Bus" and shared insights into his artistic process, including constructing models to accurately depict shadows on aerial landscapes in his drawings. Afterward, he answered questions from students and signed books.
Kay Koepsel-Benning, Elmbrook’s Director of Library Services, stated: “It was an absolute honor to have Loren Long visit. His ability to connect with young readers through his art and words is truly inspiring. Events like this encourage a deeper love of reading and creativity within our students.”
Long's visit was facilitated by a partnership with Boswell Books, a local independent bookstore. This event continues Elmbrook’s tradition of hosting renowned authors to promote literacy among students.
