Four sex offenders released into Waukesha since beginning of August

The Waukesha city police department has published notices on their social media pages to notify residents of four different sex offenders released into the city during since August 1.  

John Cooper was released on August 6, 2024. He was convicted of multiple counts of sexual touching and intercourse with a 10 year old male. Cooper also threatened his victim with a firearm if he told anyone what was happening. His residence is listed as 1108 Pewaukee Rd. 

Michael Brown was released on August 14, 2024. He was convicted of possessing and sharing sexually explicit images with minors, as well as forcing multiple males ages 9-12 to expose themselves to him. Brown's residence is listed as 1108 Pewaukee Rd. 

On August 27, 2024, David Kanouse was released into the Waukesha area. He was convicted of possession of child pornography materials depicting boys between the ages of 10-14, as well as trading content online. He previously showed child pornography materials to three minors. He was also convicted of assault on a male relative aged 9-13. A complaint of Kanouse committing sexual acts on a 14 year old in a group home in 1997 was dismissed. Kanouse is listed as homeless. 

Steven Gordon was convicted of possessing and sharing explicit child abuse materials online. Images of sexual abuse on girls ages 4-5 years old were found on his phone. Gordon is listed as homeless at the time of his release on September 3.

All four offenders have the “potential to reoffend” included in their classification levels. They are all barred from unsupervised contact with minors and have mandated interactions with law enforcement, as well as electronic monitoring. The Waukesha city police posts regular notifications to residents when new offenders are released into the area when they discern the information benefits residents and increases public safety and awareness. 

Waukesha residents can get more information on sex offenders in their area on the Wisconsin Department of Corrections Sex Offender Registry, which is publicly available online.
