WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) issued a statement following his vote to pass H. Res. 1292, holding Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress.

“It’s very simple, the Judiciary Committee issued a subpoena with legitimate legislative purpose and Attorney General Garland has willfully refused to comply. This willful refusal constitutes contempt of Congress and warrants prosecution as prescribed by law,” said Rep. Fitzgerald.

“I do not trust the White House for a second when they tell Congress that the DOJ-created and -produced transcripts of President Biden’s interview with Special Counsel Hur are accurate and complete. Especially considering the White House was just caught doctoring an official transcript to hide a verbal slip from President Biden. The Committee needs the audio tape to continue its impeachment investigation into the President, and I expect AG Garland and the DOJ to comply or face the consequences.”
