Nine Elmbrook student speedskaters recently showcased their talent at the 2024 US Short Track Speedskating Age Group National Championships in Midland, Michigan. Among the participants, some outstanding achievements were celebrated, including record-breaking performances and remarkable placements.
Brookfield Central alum Aaron Liu (2023) made headlines by breaking a 15-year record in the Junior A Division’s 1000m event, solidifying his position as a two-time national champion. Another remarkable feat was achieved by current BC sophomore Aidan Liu, who clinched the Junior C Division’s Short Track Age Group Nationals Championship, marking his third consecutive national title.
The competition also saw impressive performances from other Elmbrook speedskaters. Vannessa Chan, a 7th grader from WHMS, secured the 2nd place in the Junior D Women’s Division. Andrea Cao from BEHS' 25 claimed the 4th place in the Junior B Women's Division, and Vincent Chan from BCHS ‘27 also finished 4th in the Junior C Men's Division.
Moreover, the event featured the talents of homegrown speedskaters Kelly Grover, Amber Li, and Aaron Li, who embarked on their speedskating journey with the Elmbrook Speedskating Club.
The competition, which welcomed qualified speed skaters aged 11 years and older, divided participants into various age divisions. It served as the final event of the US Speedskating season for these skaters.
Congratulations poured in for the athletes, with a special mention to Aidan Liu and Aaron Liu for their exceptional accomplishments in the national championships. The Elmbrook Speedskating Club continues to foster talented individuals in the sport of speedskating.
