Congressman Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) issued a statement regarding his vote to impeach Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Fitzgerald expressed his strong criticism of Mayorkas, citing reasons for his decision to support the impeachment.

Fitzgerald stated, “Secretary Mayorkas has completely breached public trust. You need not look any further than his flip-flopping under oath at Congressional hearings about the operational control of the border. While he insisted that he did have operational control over the border, he quickly changed tune and admitted to me under oath that the opposite was true.”

The Congressman highlighted that the vote to impeach Mayorkas was a result of a thorough investigation by the House Homeland Security Committee into the causes, costs, and consequences of the unprecedented border crisis. Fitzgerald pointed out that Mayorkas' failure to comply with detention requirements and misuse of parole authority under the Immigration and Nationality Act led to the release of more than 3.3 million illegal immigrants into the United States. Additionally, Fitzgerald mentioned that despite Customs and Border Protection (CBP) apprehending individuals on the terrorist watchlist at the border, Mayorkas had not taken meaningful actions to enhance national security.

In conclusion, Fitzgerald emphasized, “For these reasons, I voted to impeach Secretary Mayorkas.”
