U.S. Representative Scott Fitzgerald (R-WI) has voiced his belief that there is significant evidence suggesting President Biden's purported abuse of power and breach of public trust, citing connections with shell companies and laundered funds. Fitzgerald's remarks were made in the wake of the House's approval of an impeachment inquiry into Biden, a move supported by every House Republican.

Fitzgerald stated, "20 shell companies & ⬆️ $200K in laundered funds." He further commented, "The evidence is not only overwhelming, it’s black & white." Regarding the House Republicans' vote to formalize the impeachment inquiry into President Biden, Fitzgerald added, "HouseGOP's vote to formalize the impeachment inquiry into Pres. Biden will corroborate the evidence we have pointing to abuse of power and violation of public trust."

An AP News report provides context for these developments. The recent 221-212 party-line vote for the probe endorsed an impeachment process that could potentially result in Biden's removal from office for what the Constitution describes as "high crimes and misdemeanors," contingent on conviction in a Senate trial. Republicans argue that Hunter Biden's association with Ukrainian gas company Burisma during his father's vice presidency raises concerns about a potential conflict of interest. Senate Republicans have been examining messages and financial transactions from Hunter Biden's laptop and have contemplated issuing subpoenas to foreign entities associated with him. Recently, James Mandolfo, a former federal prosecutor, was appointed as general counsel for the Oversight Committee by Republicans.

A Fox News report quoted President Biden responding to the probe: "Instead of doing anything to help make Americans’ lives better, they are focused on attacking me with lies. Instead of doing their job on the urgent work that needs to be done, they are choosing to waste time on this baseless political stunt that even Republicans in Congress admit is not supported by facts." Fox News also noted that Biden affirmed his commitment to "make sure inflation keeps going down and job growth keeps going up."

According to a 27WKOW report, all six Wisconsin House Republicans endorsed the authorization, viewing it as a means to ensure transparency. However, with divisions within the House GOP Caucus, uncertainties remain regarding the impeachment vote.

A press release from Fitzgerald's office reported that Fitzgerald said after the vote: "Today’s vote was necessary as House Republicans continue to face obstruction from the White House in our investigation of the Biden family’s corruption and President Biden’s involvement in a foreign influence peddling scheme."
