Scott Fitzgerald, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Wisconsin’s 5th district since 2021, shared recent legislative updates via social media. Fitzgerald, who succeeded Jim Sensenbrenner and previously served in the Wisconsin State Senate from 1995 to 2021, provided insights into his ongoing work in Congress.

On May 21, 2025, Fitzgerald announced that his bill, the Halting Uncertain Methods and Practices in Supervision (HUMPS) Act, had successfully passed the House Financial Services Committee. “Today, my bill, the Halting Uncertain Methods and Practices in Supervision (HUMPS) Act, passed the House Financial Services Committee.” He elaborated that this legislation aims to provide clarity to the bank rating process under the CAMELS rating system.

On May 22, Fitzgerald expressed his stance on government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs), stating that their conservatorship has been prolonged excessively. “The GSE conservatorship has gone on for far too long.” He concurred with President Biden’s perspective that selling government stakes in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac could enhance private capital influx and fund middle-class housing initiatives.

Scott Fitzgerald was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1963 and currently resides in Clyman. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
