Rep. Scott Fitzgerald, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Wisconsin’s 5th district, has recently shared updates on various issues via social media. Fitzgerald, who succeeded Jim Sensenbrenner in 2021 and previously served in the Wisconsin State Senate from 1995 to 2021, continues to engage with his constituents through these platforms.
On May 16, 2025, Fitzgerald announced the introduction of the Insurance Data Protection Act. He expressed concerns about the Federal Insurance Office’s (FIO) recent efforts to collect insurance underwriting data under climate risk considerations. Fitzgerald criticized this initiative as an example of “unelected bureaucrats advancing a political agenda that has no place in” governmental processes.
Later that day, he highlighted a significant decrease in overdose deaths in Wisconsin over the past year—a drop of 36%, marking the lowest figures since before the pandemic. He attributed this progress to “strong border enforcement and efforts to stop fentanyl trafficked from China through our southern border,” while acknowledging that “@POTUS’ policies are working” in addressing this issue.
In another update on May 16, Fitzgerald celebrated a meeting with students from Brookfield Central High School who achieved sixth place nationally in the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl. This competition tests students’ knowledge across science and mathematics disciplines. He commended their achievement as they were “the only high school” from Wisconsin to reach such heights.
Scott Fitzgerald was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1963 and now resides in Clyman. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh with a Bachelor of Science degree obtained in 1985, he continues his work as a public servant at age 59.
