Congressman Scott Fitzgerald from Wisconsin’s 5th district has expressed his condolences following the passing of Pope Francis. In a statement, Fitzgerald acknowledged the significant impact Pope Francis had on the Catholic Church and the faith community at large during his time as pope.

Fitzgerald stated, “I join Catholics in Wisconsin and around the world in offering my prayers following the passing of Pope Francis. His papacy left a lasting impact on the faith community and shaped a significant era for the Catholic Church.” He also reflected on a personal meeting with the Pope in August 2023, noting it as a memorable event in his life.

Acknowledging the transition period the Church now faces, Fitzgerald commented on the future, saying, “As the Church enters a period of transition, this is a pivotal moment to reflect on the values and direction that will define its future—one that calls for renewed focus on timeless truths, strong moral leadership, and a clear commitment to the values that have long anchored the faith.”
