Congressman Scott Fitzgerald issued a statement on May 20 following the House passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act.
The legislation aims to address housing shortages by increasing supply and reducing regulatory barriers for construction. The bill seeks to modernize programs under the Department of Housing and Urban Development, improve access to financing, and remove federal obstacles that slow down housing development.
“Solving America’s housing shortage starts with increasing supply and cutting the red tape that makes it harder to build,” said Congressman Fitzgerald. “This legislation takes important steps to modernize HUD programs, improve access to financing, and eliminate federal barriers that slow housing construction so developers and rural banks can deliver more housing for hardworking Americans. I’m proud to support a bill that will help lower housing costs nationwide.”
Fitzgerald has represented Wisconsin’s 5th district in Congress since replacing Jim Sensenbrenner in 2021, after previously serving in the Wisconsin State Senate from 1995 through 2021, according to his official website. He was born in Chicago in 1963, currently lives in Clyman, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1985.
In recent elections, Fitzgerald won against Mike Van Someren in the general election with over sixty-four percent of votes cast in 2022. In the previous cycle he defeated Tom Palzewicz with just over sixty percent support from voters.
The passage of this act is positioned as an effort by lawmakers like Fitzgerald to address rising concerns about affordable housing across the country.
