The United States has implemented a series of new tariffs as part of President Trump’s “America First” and “reciprocal” trade initiatives. Further tariffs are currently under consideration. This move has prompted several countries to announce or enact their own retaliatory measures. Canada and Mexico have already imposed tariffs in response to previous U.S. actions. China has introduced a 125% tariff on U.S. imports. The European Union is taking a wait-and-see approach, delaying any retaliation after President Trump postponed the enforcement of “reciprocal” tariffs by 90 days amid ongoing negotiations.

The Waukesha County Business Alliance is closely monitoring these international trade developments, especially their effects on key sectors such as manufacturing and construction. The Alliance is maintaining communication with congressional offices to ensure local business concerns and impacts are conveyed at the federal level. The organization is also collaborating with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce to stay updated and relay information to its members. Will Neitzel is a contact point for businesses seeking to discuss or provide feedback on the tariffs’ impact.

A chart has been provided to outline the current status of U.S. tariffs, with a note on its potential for changes.

For additional inquiries, businesses are encouraged to reach out to Will Neitzel.
